Forging and Enhancement

How to raise your gear: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald forging, crystals, success rates and costs.

Every piece of gear can be improved in six ways:

WhatRangeHow
Item level (the item itself)14 steps per gear line, e.g. Short Sword → Lost SwordRuby forging (this page)
QualityCommon, Enhanced, Delicate, Good, Superior, Classic, Eternal, Epic, Legendary, MysticSapphire forging (this page)
Stars1–12Emerald forging (this page)
Added attributesup to 4 (5 on class-suit gear)Gear Attributes
Vestment levelBronze 1 … Peridot 10Vestment Forging
Holy stonesup to 2 socketsHoly Stones

Quality raises the item's own (white) stats. Stars raise the value of every added attribute.

The forging window#

Open it with D; no NPC is needed. Only items in your bag can be forged (take worn gear off first), and not while you are dead.

Failure never hurts your gear

When a forge fails, the gem, the crystals and the Silver are used up, but the item never loses a level, a quality step or a star, and never breaks. Lucky coins are not needed.

A successful forge with a bound gem or crystal makes the item bound.

Materials#

MaterialUseBonus to the success rate
Level 1 Ruby / Level 2 Ruby / Level 3 Rubyraise the item level+5 / +25 / +100
Level 1 Sapphire / Level 2 Sapphire / Level 3 Sapphireraise quality up to Epic+0 / +8 / +16
Level 4 Sapphireraise quality from Epic+24
Level 1 Emerald / Level 2 Emerald / Level 3 Emeraldraise stars up to 10+0 / +8 / +16
Level 4 Emeraldraise stars from 10+24
Level 1 Crystal … Level 4 Crystalboost any forge+2 / +4 / +8 / +12 per crystal

You can add up to 25 crystals, all of one level. The chance of success is (rate + 1) out of 101, so a rate of 100 or more always succeeds. If the rate is 0 or less, the forge is refused and nothing is used up.

Ruby: raising the item level#

Each gear line has 14 items, e.g. Short Sword (Lv 1) → Scimitar (20) → Bronze Sword (30) → Silver Sword (40) → Glaive (50) → Sacrificial Short Sword (60) → Crystal Sword (70) → Kryss (80) → Cursed Sword (90) → Fossilia Dentis Mast (100) → Pillage Tulwar (105) → Mantis Sword (110) → Manta Sword (115) → Lost Sword (120). Spears, wands, staves, shields, armors, robes, helmets, bracers, leggings, gloves, boots, belts and amulets have the same ladders; rings have two shorter ones.

Silver cost#

Every attempt costs Silver, more for higher gear. Examples:

Gear (level)RubySapphire (Common … Legendary)Emerald (1 … 11 stars)
Short Sword (1)561 … 180 … 21
Silver Sword (40)30432 … 74416 … 728
Crystal Sword (70)4,952560 … 13,020280 … 12,740
Fossilia Dentis Mast (100)6,860800 … 18,600400 … 18,200
Lost Sword (120), class suits8,132960 … 22,320480 … 21,840

Level 3 Amethyst: transform#

A Level 3 Amethyst turns an item into another item of the same family (for example another sword of the 14-step sword line, or magic armor into physical armor). Quality, stars, attributes, sockets and vestment level are kept. It always works and costs no Silver.

Combining gems#

Put 6 identical gems in the combine slots of the forging window to get 1 of the next level, always, for free:

Level 4 Sapphires and Emeralds are made from 99 pieces at the Gear Mentor (Gear Attributes). Higher crystals can be broken down there too.
